The whole economy is shifting to be less of a gambling hub and more of a Dubai/ adult Disney world type place. The Casinos know they are screwed and are trying to hold on to whatever they have left. Gambling is becoming more widespread and it’s ironically hurting Vegas.

The slots are terrible.

This is not a Vegas thing. Every big city locals generally stay away from big touristy areas of the city.

Great video Jacob! When I was a tourist I visited Vegas multiple times a year and always stayed on the Strip. Every trip was a blast. However now I live here and have for over 10 years. I avoid the Strip at all costs for all the reasons you mentioned but mostly because of the crime. I enjoy Downtown much more.

That's very similar to where I live in Virginia Beach. None of the locals like going down to the boardwalk for all the same reasons that Vegas locals don't like going down to the Strip. I've lived here in Virginia Beach for almost 30 years, and now I understand why Vegas locals avoid the Strip. We have a saying here in Virginia Beach that we're like a low-budget Miami, and that's why a lot of tourists come here. It's lower budget, but people can still get the same beach boardwalk frills. However, all the locals complain about parking, prices, tourists, city spending, etc. I think when you live somewhere for a long period of time, you get really bored of things locally too.

I lived there for 15 yrs and never went to the strip except when I was at work as a casino cage cashier. When I got off work, the last thing I wanted to do was be around casinos. And now they charge fir everything, corporations have taken over, there are no more free meal passes or drink passes that you could get just by asking. And all parking was free. Everything is different than when I lived there.

We stayed at the D a while back, and their "Fitness center" is laughable compared to the plaza. A handful of free weights, a cable stack, 2 benches (no barbells) and a bit of cardio equipment.

The strip is a massive mall. Every one walks around like thirsty zombies. I used to be one of those thirsty zombies just looking for a place to sit. Haven’t been back in 7 years. One giant tourist trap!

I recently moved to Las Vegas from the Chicago area. I only went to Chicago to work; and, after 2019, when my job moved me to the suburbs closer to home, I never again went to downtown, and for much of the same reasons you (and your viewers) mention about not going to the Strip.... traffic, parking fees (upward of $65 in Chicago to park), crazy prices for food, tourists, crowds, congestion, construction. Though admittedly a 2 minute red I'm familiar with from where I came from; it seems a lot of the reds up in LV where I am now seem a lot longer than 2 minutes.

I’m a local. I avoid the strip like the plague

I lived in Vegas 6 years and went to the strip for fun often. We called it hokey tourist day. It was the early 2000s so things were more affordable and it was possible to avoid traffic. Locals never actually drive the strip.

The biggest mistake, is, going to Amarica.

South Point, Palace Station, both Arizona Charlie's, 4 Queens, Binions, Downtown Grand, The D. Good paytables, low table minimums, 3:2 BJ, Double-zero roulette, decent food at decent prices. The Strip hasn't seen a dime of my money in over 20 years.

All valid reasons. I think most people that live in tourist cities try to avoid the areas where tourists visit. I have relatives that live in San Antonio TX and have not been to the River Walk in years. If I lived in Vegas, I would definitely gamble at local casinos and eat at restaurants off the strip and only go to the strip probably for special occasions or if a new casino opened.

I used to visit the Strip at least once a week. And then it changed. Prices for food skyrocketed. Services fell off. And then the casinos made it clear locals were not welcome with the parking fees, which the first year were not applied to locals, but then they got greedy or they just got tired of our business. And then I missed by like 2 days gambling with my Caesars Rewards card and they emptied my account of $1200 due to inactivity > 6mo. Oh, I'd used the card regularly, just not gambling, and only gambling counts. ok... I'm done. In the 5 years since, I've been to the strip exactly 0 times. And when they got rid of the parking fees for locals during Covid and were begging us to come help 'em out by doing business there... oh hell no, the parking fee change was not permanent and as soon as the tourists came back, so did the parking fee. They don't want me. I don't want them. This ain't the Vegas Strip of 20 years ago when I moved here.

The Strip traffic is SO BAD, it makes L.A. traffic look terrific.

Not a local, but my friends and family who do live there year round have expressed all of those points regarding the Strip. To them, why should they spend several hundreds of dollars for the same thing they can get elsewhere for small fraction of the cost? That also includes their time which might be even more precious. When we meet-up, it's usually off the Strip for food. Keep up the great videos Jacob!

I work for a courier service in Chicago.They have a branch in LV so about 12 years ago I transferred to Vegas for the winter. Spent very little time on the strip. Really enjoyed the Suncoast. What you didn't mention was that all the local casinos have bowling alleys, movie theaters,and plenty of places to eat. Sort of a 1 stop entertainment center. Went to Vegas last year with my family and the didn't want to leave the strip even though I could have taken them to a bunch of different places.
